Check the configuration settings in the software that you’re using on the PC for importing the photos, because it sounds like that’s where the problem is located.

I have the Canon PowerShot A95 and I use Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0 for importing my photos from my camera and it’s got an option to create a folder by the creation date.

If you’re having a problem with the picture numbers being out of sequence, then the problem might be that you aren’t deleting all the pictures off your flash card and it’s filling in the holes with the next available number. That is if you’ve deleted some and created some holes for it to fill.
