which is better canon powershot S5 IS or nikon coolpix 5000?

i only have a nikon point and shoot right now and i think its time to move up in camera. i was checking specs and price online but, i wanted to know what other photographers think????

If it was me, I would go with the s5, just for the optical zoom. They both can use hot shoe flashs. Most of the differences can be adapted easily.

The zoom will give you a lot of extra abiltiys, if you shoot anything other than closeups.

That camera does in fact take the standard SD card. xD is only used by Olympus and Fuji.

Which SLR camera should i choose?

I am a begginer at photography.
I know how to take good pictures with my digital camera though.

Which should i choose?

First of all the Coolpix isn’t a dSLR.
And second, the d3000 is a pretty lousy camera.
I would suggest the d40, d40x, d60, or even the d5000. All of them have a similar form factor and operation. There are many reasons why the d3000 is not a very good camera.

remember, megapixels should NEVER be a factor in your decision. Megapixels do not matter.
Oh and if you decide against an SLR, dont get a Nikon compact. Get a Canon point and shoot.
I think in general the Canon point and shoots are superior to Nikon’s, and Nikon’s dSLR’s are superior to Canons

I have a Nikon 5700 coolpix digital camera. Screen shows ‘egg timer’ and ‘buffer full’. how to clear buffer?

the ‘egg timer’ is shown in the manual as depicting the buffer full, but it does not tell you what the buffer is, or how to clear it. Anybody help?

You don’t have to do anything because the buffer clears itself.
The buffer is the camera’s internal memory that temporary stores the photo until it can be written to be memory card. The buffer fills up when a series of photos are taken quickly one after another, and the photos can not be written to the memory card fast enough. The buffer is emptied as the last photo is written to the memory card.

Which is better? Nikon coolpix s560, s630, s230, or s70?

It mainly depends on what features and specifications you desire the most.

What I recommend is going to the site I have listed as my source and inputting all of the specifications you care about the most in an excel spreadsheet.

Rank each camera for each specification, and then see which one has the best overall ranking.

Specifications I typically look at are:
1. Date Announced–more recent cameras are likelier to have more improved technology.
2. Price–cheaper the better
3. Effective Pixels–less pixels are probably better in this case (since you probably wouldn’t need more than 10 and more pixels create more noise)
4. Pixel Density–lower pixel densities mean more light reaches each pixel and improvements in picture quality (although there are several other factors, such as color management, lens quality, and image-processing engines).
5. Optical Zoom–probably the higher the better.
6. Image Stabilization–if it has it, then it is a plus.
7. Macro Focus Range–lower the number, the closer you can get to an object.
8. Aperture Range–lower the numbers, the more light goes through the camera.
9. Max Shutter–the higher the denominator, the quicker your camera will be able to take a picture.
10. Flash Range–the larger the number, the farther your flash will be effective.
11. Storage Types–make sure the storage types reflect your personal needs.
12. LCD–higher the number, the bigger the LCD screen.
13. Battery–make sure the battery reflects your personal desires (is it lithium, AA, etc)
14. Dimensions–lower the numbers, the more compact it is and the easier it will fit into your pocket.

However, you might want to look at others or ignore some of these altogether.

Also, take a look at the highlighted features for each camera as well, and make sure to take those into account also.

I don’t know about a few years, but I have had it for a couple of months and it is like the best camera I’ve ever had. It takes great and clear pictures and I also like the smile feature. You should get it.
