I can’t pick which one to purchase!

I’m going to get a new camera (old one’s not working) and I want a really good one that I’ll get my money’s worth out of and be able to take great shots, even videos, just for everyday things as well as events. I found out about this one and reviews made it sound great, but I’m just getting backup opinions before I decide to buy it. I even found a site to get it for $160 instead of $400. So if you could rate it 1-10 and say why, or just give comments, that’d be great.

I am looking to buy a compact digital camera that is durable, takes decent pictures, and can record video. I don’t need anything too special. My budget is also $150. I found the Canon for $149 and the Samsung for $129. The Samsung is 12MP and has 5x optical zoom, while the Canon is 10MP and has 3x optical zoom. I know that Canon’s have a great reputation, but I don’t know much about the Samsung’s. Both have good online reviews.

Would it be worth it to pay the extra 20 dollars and purchase the Canon or is the Samsung a better deal with it’s great features at a cheaper price?

Do the lower W and S numbers represent earlier models / resolution?’ As I don’t get the logic behind Sony’s numbering, I was wondering if there is available a so called “family tree” that shows the relaionship between the vaious models (like DCRP’s tree for the Canon Elph series http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/canon/powershot_sd790-review/ )
((Just as a matter of interest I recently saw some truly excellent shots straight from the camera, taken on a bike ride using am old battered shirtpocket Sony L1..))

When I try to take a picture it only turns out black, all I can see is black when the screen is on when I want to take a picture, but when I go to review the pictures that are already on the memory card they are fine.

I’m guessing that some connection is broken, but has anyone else had this problem and does anyone know what I can do?

How can I fix it because I need my camera asap?!

It’s not just a problem of forgetting to press the display button. I’ve done that numerous times to no avail

I’m looking to buy a digital camera for taking general pictures. I also intend to take pictures of volleyball as well. I don’t want to spend a ton of money, as I am a student, and I don’t have a lot at the moment. I know the best suggestion for shooting sports photography would be to buy a camera for that purpose, but like I said, I don’t have a ton of cash.

Specifically, I am looking at a Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS camera. Based on its specs from dpreview.com, this camera performs a lot better than my previous camera, a Kodak DX3500, which is currently discontinued. Here is a comparison between them:

haha yeah i realized i spelled it wrong after i submitted it

Im getting a new digital camera soon, and was looking at the SX100 IS. So far from all the reviews i’ve read it looks pretty good, i was thinking about the G9 from Canon, but i think its a bit too “serious” for my photography level right now. I want to start getting into hobby photography, nothing serious for now..so what camera (from either canon or nikon, preferably canon) do you think would start me off on the right track?
