Canon PowerShot S3 IS or Fujifilm FinePix S9000/S9500?

I had a Fuji S7000, it was and still is a beautiful camera. When the 9500 first came out I couldn’t wait so I raced out and bought one. It is the most miserable piece of junk I have ever owned.

Pictures are not clear and sharp. There are blocks of pixels in photos and distant object are badly fringed.

After that I bought a Nikon D50, a little bit dearer, but what a fantastic camera for the price!

I know nothing about the Canon, but my advice is stay away from the Fuji S9000/9500.

What do you think about the Canon Powershot SD600 Digital Camera?

I’m going to get a new camera (old one’s not working) and I want a really good one that I’ll get my money’s worth out of and be able to take great shots, even videos, just for everyday things as well as events. I found out about this one and reviews made it sound great, but I’m just getting backup opinions before I decide to buy it. I even found a site to get it for $160 instead of $400. So if you could rate it 1-10 and say why, or just give comments, that’d be great.

Canon’s SD models are excellent ultra compact cameras, and the SD600 was a very popular model about…1 1/2 years ago.

It’s a very good little camera but, you might also want to consider a newer model. Maybe the SD1000, which features the latest Digic III processor (which means the camera will be faster and image quality is better). It also has a higher res. LCD and other improved features.
You would need to buy a high speed SD card for optimum camera performance.
The camera is available for just over US$200 (online)…which is not much extra to pay for newer technology.

But, if you are not prepared to pay extra, then the SD600 is a fine little camera. Just make sure you buy a fast SD card (Sandisk Ultra II or the faster, Extreme III). 1-2GB is a good minimum, which will provide plenty of storage for photos/videos. Make sure your photo quality is set to…Superfine/Large..and your movies, 640×480 at 30fps.

Samsung SL620 vs. Canon SD1200 IS?

I am looking to buy a compact digital camera that is durable, takes decent pictures, and can record video. I don’t need anything too special. My budget is also $150. I found the Canon for $149 and the Samsung for $129. The Samsung is 12MP and has 5x optical zoom, while the Canon is 10MP and has 3x optical zoom. I know that Canon’s have a great reputation, but I don’t know much about the Samsung’s. Both have good online reviews.

Are all the Canon specs correct? It says image resolution 5616×3744. That would make it a 21mp camera. If that spec is wrong I would go to the Canon site and check all the specs there. BestBuy may have listed the specs for the wrong camera.

I would most likely go with the Canon anyway over Samsung. Canon just has more years of camera experience than Samsung does. I would instinctively trust it more and trust Canons customer service more if I ever did have a problem.
