What is the best digital camera to take trecking around Thialand?

I want a camera that won’t get wrecked. Also any thoughts on the best digital camera in general would be apreciated

In general, digital cameras (having delicate electronic and very small mechanical parts) are not necessarily very robust — in comparison to all-mechanical film cameras. Having said that, some are obviously more sturdy than others. Olympus has a line of cameras that (supposedly) can take 6 ft drops and is water-proof, so that might worth looking at.

My suggestion would be to go to your favorite camera store and “touch and feel” models that are in your price range. If they have an all-plastic/cheap feel, then they probably won’t last long. Most (if not all) digital camera manufacturers have “cheap” model lines and “better” model lines, so you can’t say that all products of manufacturer X are all good or all bad. With some manufacturers you can identify them by the lens designer on the camera (e.g. cheap Sony cameras have Sony optics, better Sony cameras have Carl Zeiss optics) and/or whether they have plastic bodies or metal bodies.

Another thing to contemplate is the availability of electricity (depending on where you are trecking). If availability of electricity is sketchy (i.e. being able to recharge the camera every few days), then a model that takes standard batteries (e.g. AA or AAA) may be a good choice.
