Why is the Nikon D3000 cheaper than the D60?

I am looking at getting an SLR- I WAS considering the D40 or D50 but now the D3000 has replaced the D60….BUT it appears to be slightly cheaper. Is there a reason for this ….is it “missing” features that perhaps the D60 is better for?
I posted earlier questioning is these cameras will “get rid of” the much hated problem I have w/ Delayed Photographs (….you know-when you have a great picture/smile from your baby ~ you snap but the picture doesnt take until he is crawling away and has his eyes closed>….). I really want a camera that will TAKE the picture I want it to take- esp action pictures!

Either camera is fine. One certain reputable camera reviewer recently slated the new D3000 as Nikon’s worst ever DSLR. Said reviewer often struggles for objectivity but still…

You asked the question about shutter lag. You’ll have no problem with that whatsoever with a DSLR. I’ve never, ever experienced it with my old D60.

Realistically, a D3000 and a D60 will both produce fine results. The bodies are almost identical too.

I’ve never pressed a button on a D3000. I would, though, suspect the menus and the buttons are better on the D3000, as it’s newer.
