Nikon D5000 vs Pentax K-X?

Pentax K-X w/ 18-55mm & 55-300mm lens – $695
Hi, I am buying my first DSLR. Video functionality appealed to me and I’ve already ruled out the Canon Rebel T1i yesterday and I was really prepared to buy the Nikon but someone mentioned the Pentax K-X so I looked it up and it seems to be cheaper, smaller, and has camera-based IS and therefore, cheaper lens (b/c the D5000 is lens-based IS).
However, it’s supposedly louder, slower, has lower battery life, and lacks the swivel LCD screen…. and everyone is always raving about Nikon cameras.
Which camera is better in the long run and the better deal?
