best wide angle lens nikon d40

Kalimar Wide Angle Convertor any good?
I have a Nikon D40 camera and really want a wide angle lens, but there’s no way I can afford one. Today on ebay is a Kalimar 0.42x Wide Angle Convertor for a very cheap price (so far) and I am wondering wether to bid for it? I have never heard of Kalimar until today and having read up a bit on them, on the internet, realise that they are not the best quality. There is also a Kenko wide angle convertor on there, which finishes in a couple of days, though I know it will probably go for too much, so should I get this Kalimar one, or wait and see if I can get the Kenko?
Thanks.
It never pays to go cheap. There are reasons why it is cheap, and why dedicated wide angle lens is expensive. Basically you get what you pay for.
But then if you’re satisfied with the lack of quality these things gives you (like, you’re not a very demanding person, just want something wide to play with and have fun) then go ahead.
I’d get the Kenko branded one, and *hope* it will be better, since I know the brand. It’s japanese but for the cheaper products they most probably just outsource it somewhere.
