tips for using nikon d5000

What is a good lens for shooting skaters/bmx’ers for a Nikon D5000?
I recently bought a Nikon D5000 and a few friends of mine who skate and bmx have asked me to get a few good a professional looking shots of them doing what they do. What would be a good lens/lens filter to purchase for my Nikon D5000 to use while shooting my friends who skate/bmx? Please and thank you! And just to note, I have an 18-55mm lens. & Don’t be afraid to give me a few tips for shooting skaters/bmx’ers. It’ll be helpful considering this will be new for me.
There are many zoom lenses that go up to 200mm but I would suggest getting a tele photo zoom that goes to 250mm or 300mm,
Make sure whatever you get is compatible with your D5000 to keep your auto focus and do know you have the Nikon brand lenses but also have the respected independent lens makers like Tamron and Sigma who make lenses for the big camera brands. I have owned and used both and they have performed well for me.
Below are links to some options I found at B&H Photo, they are directly to the customer reviews of the lenses.
Here is what I found:
1st link below – Nikon AF Zoom Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6G Lens
2nd link below – Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro Autofocus Lens
3rd link below – Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro Autofocus Lens
4th link below – list of possible lenses
Hope this helps.
