best all rounder lens for Nikon D80?

Hi all,
I have purchased Nikon D80 body. I want to put one of best Lens kit to take stunning sharp images from the cam. I have looked for 50mm f/1.8 prime lens, 60mm f/2.8 micro lens.
I want to know is there something better than these lens which can work as all rounder for taking portraits,landscape,family photos and some small insects and flowers images.
can I take very small insects iamges from 50mm prime lens as done with 60mm micro.
Just if I can do then I can opt for that since it works at even bigger aperture size hence would be good for even low light images.

I agree w/ FhotoAce. The best all around is probably the 18-200mm VR, which is what I am using right now. For a super fast prime, I just replaced my 50mm f/1.8 prime for a new 35mm f/1.8. I feel like especially in doors, the 35mm is slightly more usable than the 50mm.

The 18-200mm VR is susceptible to distortion though. As with any lens you will always have to compromise. If you are just looking super sharp, then I would recommend the 18-135mm. That lens is sharp as tack, but of course the minus are that it lacks VR, there are issues with light drop off, and as well as distortion.

If the 18-200mm VR is out of your price range, I recommend the 18-105mm VR. It is very similar to the 18-135mm but it adds VR. Of course you are losing 30mm of zoom, but I think at the end of the day the VR is probably more useful than 30mm.

I also recommend the 18-70mm as well. That lens is probably the best kit lens that Nikon has built. If you can find a nice clean example jump on it. Picture quality, it is rated higher than both the 18-135mm and 18-105mm VR.
