Are a Nikon FG-20 and a Vivitar (1900) Electronic Flash compatible?
I know some flashes will fry the circuts of cameras, or will not work entirely if they are not correct. Unfortunately, I do not know what flashes will work with my camera…

DLSR cameras have the following issues: Canon US has verified that their digital cameras don’t like voltages over 6V.
Similarly, Nikon has specified 12V for their speedlight circuits.
Film SLR’s do not have that problems, so in general your Vivitar flash should be fine, but it never hurts to check with Nikon Technical via email. The Vivitar 1900 uses a 90v trigger voltage, so if you ever buy DSLR for your lenses, that flash will have to go.
