nikon close-up no.2

Close Up Filter Question?
Nikon No.2 Close Up 52mm Filter is it good? is it better than third brand, can i main same sharp picture? how many more X zoom does the filter provided?
I really do not find the filters to be that good from personal experience, I find the photos are nomally soft through out and the is a slight color shift.
I think if you can you should invest into a macro lens. It may cost a bit more money but you maintain the sharpness and have better detail in your photos.
